Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a goal-orientated talking therapy, created by Psychiatrist Aaron Beck in the 1960s, which helps you to understand how your thoughts (cognitions), beliefs and attitudes affect your feelings and behaviours. CBT will help you to identify your thoughts and behaviour patterns, gain awareness of inaccurate or negative thinking and help make positive changes to cope with situations and emotional issues in a more effective way.
Each CBT session is bespoke and can be a useful and effective therapy for individuals in the treatment of mental health conditions such as anxiety disorders, depression, phobias, Insomnia, PTSD, OCD, Bi-Polar, addictions and eating disorders.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for couples or relationships offers a problem solving approach to help identify and deal with tensions or problems within a relationship, change thought patterns and behaviours, working with both parties to help improve the relationship as a whole. It can also be effective with families, again helping individuals to work on patterns, behaviours, conflict management, communication and emotional resilience to help enhance family relations.
Counselling, Psychotherapy, EMDR Therapy, Hypnotherapy and Holistic Therapies are also available separately or can be integrated within or alongside CBT sessions, if considered beneficial.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) offers you opportunity to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours to help identify unhelpful/negative patterns and subsequent behavioural consequences, alongside identifying achievable goals and adopting new coping strategies to make positive changes.
Your initial session will form our introduction, contract and assessment, followed by bespoke therapy and suggested plan for moving forward, taking 1 hour. At the end of this session we should have a good understanding of presenting issues and suggested areas to be worked on, should you wish to continue your therapy.
Thereafter, each 60 minute session consists of bespoke therapy, tailored to your needs, with the emphasis on working at your pace but also being as effective as possible each time. During sessions, we will explore your thoughts, emotions, feelings, behaviour patterns and coping strategies. CBT techniques will be used to offer individual therapy to help make positive change and achieve explored goals.
There are no limits to the number of sessions required but this is generally a shorter term and more target based therapy.
