Each Counselling or Psychotherapy session is unique, using a blend of therapies and modalities, to offer bespoke and effective therapy to best suit to your needs each time. Please find below, further information on these different therapies:
Person-Centred/Humanistic Counselling created by Psychologist Carl Rogers, allows you to explore your thoughts, issues and feelings in a safe, non-judgemental and empathic therapy environment. It focuses on self-reflection and our innate ability to reach our full potential, through being heard, valued and respected. By offering a safe and comforting environment, you are able to explore and understand past experiences, thoughts, patterns and feelings that have impacted your self-perception which can enable positive change. This type of therapy can be effective for any ages and issues.
Integrative Counselling is a combined approach to Psychotherapy that brings together different elements of specific theories, therapies and techniques to promote healing and facilitate wholeness. This type of therapy is bespoke, being tailored to individual needs and can be effective for any issues.
Psychodynamic Therapy is an analytical therapeutic approach, based on the works of Sigmund Freud and later Carl Jung and Alfred Adler. This type of therapy is based on the core principle that the subconscious mind harbours deep-rooted feelings and memories that can affect our conscious behaviour. This therapy can be effective in treating a wide range of issues.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) helps you to understand how your cognitive thoughts affect your behaviour. This therapy focuses on the present and may involve breaking down issues, goal setting and learning new strategies to enable you to move forward. This therapy is particularity useful for specific issues, such as anxiety, OCD, addictions, eating disorders, plus many more.
EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a therapeutic approach, developed by by Francine Shapiro, for the treatment of psychological trauma and PTSD. It can be an effective therapy for reprocessing past and recent trauma memories, phobias, anxiety, panic attacks, performance anxiety, depression, disturbing life experiences, bereavement and many mental health issues.
Solution Focused Therapy is an approach based on solution-building rather than problem-solving. It aims to help you find solutions and make positive changes to achieve your goals and can be particularly effective for helping resolve issues with relationships, couples and families.
Transactional Analysis (TA) founded by Eric Berne, is designed to promote personal growth and bring about autonomous change. It focuses on analysing ego states of parent, adult and child and how this affects our interactions and relationships. This type of therapy can be effective for a wide variety of issues.
Mindfulness based therapy helps you to be more mindful in daily life, focusing attention on experiences, thoughts and feelings in the present moment. Techniques such as mindful breathing, grounding, journal writing, gentle relaxation and meditation can be explored. This therapy can be helpful with a wide range of issues, particularly anxiety and stress reduction.
Meditation and relaxation techniques can be explored during therapy sessions. Learning how to relax can be so beneficial to us all and is particularly helpful for those experiencing anxiety, grief and stress related issues.
Hypnotherapy techniques may be incorporated into your therapy programme and can be extremely effective as an aid to deep relaxation and helpful in targeting specific anxieties, phobias, beliefs, patterns and issues.
Holistic therapies can be combined with Counselling and Psychotherapy, again to aid deep relaxation and bring about feelings of inner peace and balance.
As I work integratively, each session will be unique with the aim of providing effective therapy to help you move forward and bring about lasting change.
Hypnotherapy, CBT, EMDR Therapy and Holistic Therapies are also available separately or can be integrated within or alongside Counselling and Psychotherapy sessions, if considered beneficial.
Counselling and Psychotherapy offers a safe place where you can explore your issues, challenges, thoughts and feelings in a non-judgmental, respectful and confidential environment. Being heard can be so beneficial, but also learning new ways of coping, techniques, approaches and strategies can be a powerful modality to enable positive change.
Your initial session will form our introduction, contract and assessment, followed by bespoke therapy and suggested plan for moving forward, taking 1 hour. At the end of this session we should have a good understanding of presenting issues and suggested areas to be worked on, should you wish to continue your therapy.
Thereafter, each 60 minute session consists of bespoke therapy, tailored to your needs, with the emphasis on working at your pace but also being as effective as possible each time. During sessions, we will explore your thoughts, emotions, feelings, behaviour patterns and coping strategies. A blend of different modalities, theories and techniques will be used to offer individual therapy with the aim of empowering you to move forward and make positive changes.
There are no limits to the number of sessions required or indeed an average number needed, but you can be assured of effective therapy to enable you to move forward at an appropriate pace for you.
